DIY Survival Candles

These are easy and cheap to make.  It's always a good idea to have candles in certain emergency situations.  They also give off a bit of heat which is helpful in the cold.

Make Your Own Lemon Tooth Powder

I personally try to stay as far away from fluoride as I can and keep my children away from it too.  There is quite a bit of information regarding fluoride and it's possible dangers so I will play it safe and do my best to eliminate it from our home.  It's not easy to find a teeth cleaner that the kids will actually use and this one fits the bill.  It tastes good and seems to be very effective at cleaning the teeth and freshening the breath.  Winning!

Quick, Easy Body Spray

I love to layer my fragrances whether it's all the same or mixing scents that I know would go well together.  This is too easy to make and involves only 2 ingredients!  Ready?  Here it is:  Essential oil and 100 proof vodka.  Oh, and a small spray bottle, I'm repurposing the one I got from Bath and Body Works.  Just add the essential oil to the vodka until you reach the desired scent.  It's fun to mix scents and come up with your own custom fragrance!  Be sure to test on a piece of paper before you commit to using your vodka so you can get it just right.
After applying your body butter from the previous blog, spray liberally with your new body spray and you have layered, my friend!  If you want to take it a step further, buy some unscented body wash and add the essential oil(s) to it, same goes with unscented shampoo and conditioner!  Go crazy!  Layer up!

Quick, Easy Body Butter

I recently found out how unhealthy store bought lotion can be.  For example sodium laureth sulfate contains dioxane which is a carcinogen.  Parabens are another thing to avoid along with; DEA, TEA, Diazolidinyl Urea, Imidazolidinyl Urea, Petroleum, Propelene Glycol PVP/VA Copolymer, Stearalkonium, Chloride, synthetic colors, synthetic fragrances.  Wow!  That is really a lot of unnecessary chemicals in my opinion.  I love Jillee's recipe for body butter but when I want something quick and easy I make this.

All you need is:
Coconut oil
Essential oil
Heat safe container for your body butter

Put the coconut oil in the heat safe container and place on the coffee maker warmer, or melt the oil in a double boiler.  I am using a teacup my daughter gave me, it has a lot of sentimental value and is perfect for my white fir body butter.  If you must, you can use a microwave to melt it but microwaves kill all or most of the medicinal qualities so I never, ever use one.  I don't even own one, they're bad I tell ya!

So, when the stuff is melted go ahead and remove from heat and add your essential oil(s).

That's it!  It will solidfy in a few hours. I use it right out of the shower to lock in the moisture and it is heavenly!  A little greasy at first but trust me, your skin will suck it up like a sponge!  This is so much better than putting a chemical shit storm on your body and you can customize the fragrance to your liking.  What fragrance would you use?

I'm Back!

I took a long hiatus over the holidays and now I'm back and ready to get busy!  I also started this blog knowing that I wouldn't be able to make daily contributions during the holiday season and wanted a sort of place marker if you will.  I also wanted to see how many people would be interested in what I've got to say. So as the title states, I'm back and with a vengeance haha!  I am about to start up a home based soap making business and I'm sure I will be busy with that but I plan on beefing up the blog too and adding more affiliates along with bringing you fun, easy, inexpensive, natural and useful ideas.  Please feel free to comment and like my Facebook page !
